Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
